Terms of Service

Last updated: September 8, 2026

🤝

By using Signely, you agree to these terms. They're written to be readable — not to trap you. If something is unclear, just reach out.

✅

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Signely ("the app", "the service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use Signely.

You must be at least 13 years old to create a personal Signely account. Signely does not currently offer a direct parent-consent signup flow for children under 13.

🤟

2. Description of Service

Signely is an educational web application designed to help users learn American Sign Language (ASL) through interactive lessons, games, flashcards, and practice tools. The service includes:

  • ASL alphabet and fingerspelling lessons
  • Interactive learning games and quizzes
  • Progress tracking with XP and streaks
  • Account, privacy, support, and progress-management tools
  • Embedded sign language video references

Some optional translation and custom lesson features use third-party artificial intelligence. Before text is sent for AI processing, Signely asks for your permission and identifies the processing provider. Do not submit sensitive personal information. AI-generated output may be incomplete or incorrect and should be treated as a learning aid, not professional interpretation or accessibility advice.

3. Accounts & Registration

Signely supports email/password accounts and third-party sign-in options such as Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple. When you use a third-party sign-in option, you authorize Signely to receive the basic account information needed to create and secure your account, such as your name, email address, and provider identifier.

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your Signely account and any connected Google or Apple account
  • All activity that occurs under your Signely account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use Signely for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any regulations
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, hack, or disrupt the service
  • Scrape, copy, or redistribute content from Signely without permission
  • Create fake accounts or impersonate other users
  • Use Signely to harass, threaten, or harm other users
  • Circumvent any access controls or usage limits (such as the free translation quota)

5. Free & Pro Plans

Signely currently offers a free tier and a Pro subscription for expanded learner features. Paid features may include expanded translation access, ad-free lesson and game access, extra practice features, and other premium features shown at checkout. Classroom and Teacher features are not part of the current public release.

On iPhone and iPad, paid digital subscriptions are purchased through Apple In-App Purchase and may be managed by RevenueCat as our subscription infrastructure provider. On the web, paid plans may be processed by Stripe. The native iOS app does not use Stripe checkout for digital subscriptions.

  • You authorize the applicable store or payment processor to charge the listed subscription fee on a recurring basis
  • You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period
  • iOS subscriptions must be managed, canceled, restored, and refunded through your Apple ID and Apple's subscription/refund systems
  • Web subscriptions must be managed through the web checkout or support flow provided for that purchase
  • Free accounts may see sponsor messages or rewarded ads for certain lesson or game access; Pro subscriptions remove those ads while active
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable advance notice
  • For billing issues, contact support and we will help route you to the correct store or payment processor

6. Intellectual Property

Except for materials identified as third-party licensed content, Signely's original content, design, code, and branding — including the Signely name, logo, mascot "Sig," original lessons, and original game presentation — are owned by Signely and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, or create derivative works from Signely-owned content without written permission. Third-party licensed materials remain subject to their stated licenses and attribution requirements.

Signely interface and branding assets may be Codex- or AI-assisted first-party work created under Signely's direction. Sign demonstrations are Signely-owned recordings, while identified public-domain handshape illustrations remain subject to their documented source records. Current provenance and review status are listed in our Media Credits and media manifest.

Signely maintains production records and requires applicable performer permission, commercial-use review, and qualified ASL review before instructional media is approved for release.

7. Previously Available Classroom Content

Classroom and Teacher features are not part of the current public release. The following requirements continue to apply to accounts and records created while classroom tools were previously available:

  • Use the platform solely for legitimate educational purposes
  • Obtain appropriate consent before adding students under 13 to a class
  • Ensure student data is handled in compliance with applicable school privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA)
  • Not share class join codes publicly in a way that could expose student data to unauthorized parties
  • Only upload, assign, or post classroom content that they have the right to use and that is appropriate for students

Teacher-created lessons, announcements, assignments, and file submissions are user-generated classroom content. We may remove content, restrict access, or suspend accounts if content is inappropriate, unsafe, infringing, spammy, privacy-invasive, or otherwise violates these terms. Students and teachers can report classroom content or contact support for moderation help.

8. Disclaimers

Signely is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:

  • That the service will be error-free or uninterrupted
  • That ASL content is a substitute for instruction from a certified ASL interpreter or teacher
  • Any specific learning outcomes

Signely is a supplementary learning tool and is not a certified language course.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Signely and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Signely after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the U.S. state where Signely's operator has its principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please send a written description to [email protected] and allow 30 days for an informal resolution. Unless mandatory consumer law requires otherwise, disputes shall be brought in a court with jurisdiction over that principal place of business. Nothing in these Terms removes consumer rights or remedies that cannot legally be waived where you live.
