Privacy Policy

πŸ’¬

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information Signely collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it simple β€” we're a small team building a tool to help people learn ASL.

πŸ“‹

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information when you use Signely:

  • Account information - When you sign up or sign in with email/password, Google, or Apple, we receive basic account details such as your name, email address, profile picture if provided, and authentication identifier.
  • Learning progress - Your quiz scores, streaks, completed lessons, XP, badges, translations, and custom lesson activity are stored so your progress is saved across sessions.
  • Usage data - Which features you use, how often, and general interaction patterns to help us improve the app.
  • Previously collected classroom data - Classroom tools are not part of the current public release. For accounts that previously used those tools, we may retain class membership, classroom join codes, teacher-student relationships, assignments, announcements, teacher-created lessons, due dates, completions, and progress shown to teachers for account support, deletion, safety, or legal obligations.
  • Previously submitted classroom files - Classroom tools are not part of the current public release. For accounts that previously submitted a teacher-requested file, we may retain the file data, file name, file type, related class, related assignment, and student/teacher metadata for account support, deletion, safety, or legal obligations.
  • Reports and moderation data - If you report a lesson, announcement, or file submission, we store the report reason, optional details, reporter account information, and a limited snapshot of the reported content for review.
  • Purchase and subscription data - For iOS Pro subscriptions, we store entitlement status and purchase identifiers received through Apple and RevenueCat. For web purchases, we may store checkout and subscription status from Stripe.
  • Advertising and sponsor message data - Free accounts may see sponsor messages. On iOS, Google AdMob may process IP-derived coarse location, device or app identifiers, ad requests, impressions, ad interactions, reward events, crash data, and performance diagnostics to serve, cap, measure, secure, and verify banner and rewarded ads. Signely requests non-personalized native ads and does not intentionally request permission to access Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA). Non-personalized ads can still use identifiers for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, fraud prevention, and contextual delivery. On the website, Google AdSense/Offerwall may process cookies, device or browser information, ad requests, consent signals, impressions, and interactions where web ads are enabled.
  • AI feature input - If you enable ASL grammar translation or create a custom lesson from a sentence, the text you choose to submit is processed to generate ASL gloss, lesson steps, and tips. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into these fields.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

  • Save and sync your learning progress across devices
  • Power streaks, XP, leaderboards, and other gamification features
  • Maintain, support, secure, or delete previously stored classroom records where those tools were used before the current release
  • Process support requests, safety reports, and moderation reviews
  • Review reports of inappropriate, misleading, or age-inappropriate advertisements
  • Verify subscription access and unlock Pro features
  • Improve Signely by understanding how people use the app
  • Generate AI-assisted ASL gloss, lesson steps, and signing tips after you give permission
  • Send occasional product updates (you can opt out at any time)

Signely does not sell personal information for money. Advertising providers may process or disclose identifiers and interaction data for ad delivery, measurement, security, and frequency capping as described above. Depending on where you live, you may have a right to opt out of processing legally defined as targeted advertising, sharing, or a sale.

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore), which is hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure with industry-standard security measures. Authentication is handled via Firebase Auth using email/password, Google Sign-In, and Sign in with Apple where available.

Some app features communicate with our Cloudflare Worker or similar server-side endpoints to process translations, custom lesson generation, subscription checks, and other app requests without exposing private API keys in the client. When you explicitly consent to an AI feature, the text you submit is sent through that server to OpenRouter and an AI model provider selected through OpenRouter. Signely does not send that text for AI processing if you decline.

We apply the following retention rules:

  • Account and learning records are kept while your account is active. After account deletion, Signely removes or de-identifies records under its control within 30 days, except records needed for billing, fraud prevention, security, legal claims, or regulatory obligations.
  • Purchase records are kept while needed to maintain entitlements, handle refunds or disputes, prevent fraud, and meet tax or accounting duties. Apple, RevenueCat, and Stripe may retain their own transaction records under their policies.
  • AI input is sent only when you request an AI feature after consent. Signely does not intentionally add raw input to your profile unless you save the generated result as app content. Cloudflare, OpenRouter, and a routed model provider may keep limited security or operational logs under their own terms and configured retention.
  • Support and moderation records are kept until the request or report is resolved and afterward only as reasonably necessary for safety, abuse prevention, legal claims, or compliance.
  • Advertising and device data is retained by Google under Google's published retention controls and policies; Signely does not maintain a separate copy of raw ad-network logs.

Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove encrypted backup copies. Backups are protected, age out through normal rotation, and are not restored except for disaster recovery. If a backup is restored, applicable deletion requests are reapplied.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

Signely uses browser local storage and app storage to remember session preferences and keep you logged in. The website may use Google AdSense/Offerwall and a Google-certified consent platform where ads are enabled. Where consent is legally required, advertising storage or personalized processing should not begin until a valid choice is recorded. The native iOS app does not use AdSense cookies or Stripe checkout, but free native accounts may receive Google AdMob sponsor messages. Pro accounts do not receive ads.

5. Children's Privacy

Personal Signely account creation is currently limited to people age 13 and older. The app blocks the Under 13 survey path and requires an age confirmation before signup. Signely does not currently offer a direct parent-consent signup flow for children under 13.

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through personal accounts.
  • If you are a parent and believe your child has provided us personal information without consent, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
  • Classroom records retained from previously available classroom tools are used solely for educational, support, security, and safety/moderation purposes and are never sold to advertisers.

Signely is a general-audience learning service and is not directed to children under 13 or submitted to Apple's Kids Category. If Signely learns that an under-13 user created a personal account, we will disable the account and delete the associated personal information unless a legal exception applies.

6. Third-Party Services

Signely uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud - Authentication, database, storage, and app infrastructure
  • Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple - Account authentication options
  • RevenueCat - iOS subscription entitlement management and purchase status
  • Apple App Store In-App Purchase - Native iOS Pro subscription billing
  • Stripe - Web checkout and web subscription billing only; not used for native iOS checkout
  • Google AdMob - Native iOS banner and rewarded ads for free accounts; Pro accounts are ad-free. Google describes its Mobile Ads SDK data practices in its iOS data disclosure guide.
  • Google AdSense / Offerwall - Website ads or rewarded access where enabled; not used in the native iOS app
  • Cloudflare - Worker/server-side API routing and security for selected app features
  • OpenRouter and routed AI model providers - AI-assisted ASL translation and custom lesson generation, only after the user gives permission for the submitted text to be processed
  • AI media production tools - Creation of selected Signely-owned illustrations or demonstration media from first-party production material; Signely retains production and review records for shipped assets
  • Google Fonts - Typography (Fraunces, DM Sans)

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy notices. Signely reviews providers for appropriate security and data-handling commitments, limits the information sent to what the feature needs, and remains responsible for accurately disclosing their use. Some providers process data in the United States or other countries where they or their subprocessors operate. Where applicable, transfers rely on provider transfer mechanisms such as standard contractual clauses or another lawful safeguard.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the β€œLast updated” date at the top. For a material change, we will provide an additional in-app, website, or email notice when required.
